Sakya Choekhor Lhunpo Melbourne Sakya Centre
We represent the Sakya tradition of Tibetan Buddhism in Melbourne.

Year by year, Buddhism in Australia is developing and diversifying. In our multicultural society there are many immigrant groups for whom Buddhism was a part of the culture they have left. For Anglo-Australians, Buddhism is something we are discovering and learning about. As there are many different traditions of Buddhism in Asia, those of us for whom Buddhism is something new have the special opportunity of finding a tradition that is peculiarly suited to our own personality. This is a privilege not accorded to those in traditional societies, and is one of the bonuses of living in modern Australia.

In founding Sakya Choekhor Lhunpo, His Holiness Sakya Trizin said that it was important that all four Tibetan Buddhist traditions be available in Melbourne so as to benefit different people with different kinds of karmic connections. It is our aim to develop the practice of the Sakya tradition through providing opportunities for meditation, study, translation, publication, teaching and in any other way that makes Sakyapa Buddhist teachings and practice available.

At the same time, we have a non-sectarian approach and encourage all forms of genuine Buddhist practice. In our newsletter, Pure Vision, you may find articles about all kinds of Dharma centres and teachers, from anywhere in the world. Ultimately, Buddhism is a lived religion, not just a series of theories.
